Student obligations
The totality of the student’s obligations includes the attendance and successful examination in eight (8) of the total twelve (12) courses offered, equally distributed (4 + 4) in the first and second semesters, the attendance of the seminars and the preparation and successful support of the Master’s Thesis, which covers the duration of the third semester.
In addition to the lecturers’ lectures, the students’ educational and research work potentially includes semester-long exercises per course (one to two per semester) or weekly exercises. At the same time, either at the end of the semester or in between, it may be required that the six-month research exercise be accompanied by an oral presentation and/or a written formulation of its main elements.
In the context of the educational process, lectures are also held by distinguished scientists on specialized topics, relevant to the subject of the P.M.S.
The education of the students is complemented by organized visits to places, residential complexes or buildings of special architectural, urban planning, historical, archaeological, cultural interest at the discretion of the teacher or the Coordinating Committee (S.E.) of the P.M.S.
The teaching and research work of the students is completed – in the last (3rd) semester of study – with the preparation of a Master’s Thesis, which must be characterized by originality and a research approach, in accordance with the accepted scientific codes and the corresponding scientific methodology. At the beginning of the third semester, the student must hand in a limited text related to the subject of the thesis, where the subject, the object, the objectives and the methodological approach to be followed will be described. This text will be accompanied by an indicative bibliography. The topic of the Master’s Thesis, which must be relevant to the fields of knowledge covered by the P.M.S. – A.DO.AP., is approved by the supervising professor, who requests the preparation of the work at regular intervals.

Course attendance is mandatory. Absences can only be excused if there is a serious and proven reason for the student’s inability to attend. In each course, no excused absences exceed 25% of the total hours taken in the course during the semester. In case of exceeding the limit of absences, the student has the right to repeat the specific course, in the next period when the course will be taught.
The courses are held in Trikala, Thessaly. Distance education may be provided depending on circumstances. Seminars and thesis exams can also be held at the facilities of the University of Western Attica.
Teaching and exams are conducted in the Greek language. The work is carried out in the Greek language, while the Master’s Thesis includes an abstract and subject title in English. Exceptionally and after a decision of the committee, following the proposal of the teacher, the diploma theses can be carried out in English with an extended Greek summary.
Procedures and method of assessment
The evaluation in the courses is done on a scale of zero to ten (0 – 10) with an accuracy of up to two decimal places. The student is considered to have successfully completed the course or thesis if his total grade in the course or thesis is greater than or equal to five (5). If the total grade in a course is less than five (5), the student is rejected and will have to re-examine the specific course, only once, in the next examination period.
In P.M.S. – A.DO.AP three (3) examination periods are foreseen in a period of one year. The two examination periods will take place after the end of the respective teaching semesters (winter and spring). The third examination period takes place in September and concerns the examination of students who have been rejected or did not appear for the examination of courses in previous semesters. Students who fail a course in two examination periods are deleted from the P.M.S. – A.DO.AP
At the end of the second (2nd) semester, the postgraduate student can proceed with the preparation of the postgraduate diploma thesis, provided that:
- He has not failed the same compulsory course twice.
- Has not failed more than two compulsory courses.
- Has a total grade point average in the compulsory courses of at least five (5).
The final grade results from the grades in the compulsory and optional courses and from the grade of the diploma thesis, weighted with the corresponding Credit Units according to the ECTS system. All operations to calculate the final score are done with a precision of two decimal places.
